Information and Recommendations for Newbies
If this is the first time that you're working with a blogger-for-businesses then you should be aware of the following things:
-
It's best to make a minimum of 3 months commitment to working with your blogger. It takes time for your blogger to fully research the industry, network properly with people in the industry and start to gain links that generate any kind of traffic to your blog. It's also difficult (and sometimes impossible) to get your blog ranked or listed in directories without three months of solid content. I am willing to work on blogs for a shorter period of time or to do one-time pieces for blogs. However, I strongly recommend making this commitment.
-
It is best to post 3-5 times per week. This can vary depending upon the type of posts you're doing but it's a good measurement. Ideally, you'll post every day Monday-Friday. This keeps people coming back to the blog regularly and keeps you up to date with Google blog searches. See my sample packages for information about possible packages for creating these posts.
-
You decide how involved you want to be in the blog. Some businesses want the blogger to do all of the work. Other businesses want total control over everything including choosing content and reviewing posts before they go live. Most businesses want to be somewhere in the middle, helping to choose or approve content ideas without having to invest too much time in reviewing them. Your blogger should work with you to make sure you're involved to the degree that you wish to be.

The world of blogging is changing and evolving as we speak. As your blogger, I try to stay on top of all of the changes that are going on with search engines, website analytics and social media. As such, I may recommend that we try new things with the blog as they emerge.

You will probably have to set up your blog and choose its design yourself. Please note that I am not a web designer. I don't actually install the blog on to your website for you; that's something that you'll need to do on your end. However, you can set permissions for me to access the blog once it is installed. I am familiar with all of the different blogging options including WordPress, TypePad and Blogger and can use them all efficiently. I can also recommend good plug-ins and add-ons for the blog. Furthermore, I can point you in the right direction to get assistance adding a blog from a professional if you require that.
