Kathryn Vercillo, Writer

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you and into action and since there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly ... You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you." - Martha Graham

About Me

Every single time that I sit down to write an "about me" bio for my work, I find myself writing something different from the last time that I did it. That's because what it means to be a writer is to continually ask yourself what your work has been about in the past and what it means about the work that you are doing today. Having worked in the fields of writing and editing for approximately ten years, I have had ample experience to frequently change the definition of what my work has been and where it is going.

My past experience has led to the development of a writing and blogging portfolio filled with a diverse selection of work. I have been a music reviewer, a feature writer for several different print magazines, a tech gadget reviewer, a horoscope column writer, a website copywriter, an artist statement author, the author of two books about ghosts in the Bay Area and a contributing author to travel, history and green living books. As someone who pays the bills by writing, I have done it all.

For the past couple of years, my work has been primarily in the field of blogging. I have worked for leading technology and travel sites and have been both a sole blog content writer and a contributing blog content writer for a large number of blogs of varying sizes and readerships. This work has led to extensive research and writing in twelve specific niche topic areas. It has also allowed me to explore and integrate additional skills such as SEO/SEM internet marketing, traditional marketing, online collaboration, social networking and social bookmarking and blog project management. While applying these skills to my blog work, I made it a point to remain focused on creating great content that people are actually going to want to bother to read because if you're not being read then what's the point of writing?

Today, I provide freelance writing and blogging services to a select group of clients in the twelve niche areas in which I have established a level of expertise. I also operate two blogs of my own: Real Words and San Francisco is Sexy. And I am in the process of moving forward with the launch of a small project-based multi-media publishing business. Throughout all of this work, the key qualities about me that have remained the same are that I believe in being passionate about the work that I am doing, I believe in committing myself to the work that I am doing, and I believe in always moving forward to take my work to the next level rather than being content with where I am.
