I was so excited when I went through my RSS reader today and saw that Lion Brand Yarn had written a post about my book, Crochet Saved My Life. I didn’t know that they’d be doing this write-up so it was a pleasant surprise. While I loved what they said about the book, what really touched me was what people said about their own crochet/ knitting health experiences in the comments.
Lion Brand Book Review
Lion Brand Yarn is a great large yarn company. It has a studio shop in New York that I haven’t had the opportunity to visit myself but I’ve heard wonderful things about it. I was thrilled when they posted about Crochet Saved My Life.
Excerpt from the post:
“More than telling her own story, which includes the profound motion of dropping a knife from her wrist and picking up yarn instead, Vercillo also shares the stories of other men and women who have found solace in crochet and knitting, as well as the effects these crafts have on those with various mental and physical conditions, including anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis.”
Touching Comments
At the end of their post, they asked their readers if crochet or knitting had ever gotten them through tough times in their own lives. The comments there were touching, beautiful, healing as people shared their own stories of how they saved themselves through crafting.
People commented about crafting to heal from miscarriages, grief, diet issues, cancer, depression and so much more. Each story is so personal, so important.
It was hearing and sharing stories like this that made me proud of the book in the first place. I am so glad that the book continues to inspire people to talk about this topic. I treasure these exchanges on my blogs and the blogs of others like Lion Brand.
